On Thursday, an explosion at the entrance of Pakistani Consulate in western Afghan province Herat injured one policeman and two civilians. The government of Pakistan immediately reacted saying, ‘We condemn the incident and hold the government of Afghanistan responsible for the safety and security of our embassy in Kabul and Consulates in Herat, Kandahar, Jalalabad and Mazar-e-Sharif.’
An official of Pakistani embassy in Kabul said the explosion was part of a conspiracy to spoil the relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan. But the relations were already at stake on the issue of militants getting trained in Pakistan and then enter Afghanistan to carry out terrorist activities.
Afghan officials, including President Hamid Karzai, have complained many times that the militants responsible for Afghan attacks were getting trained in Pakistan’s tribal areas, an accusation which Pakistani authorities have rejected categorically.

But the suicide attack on Indian embassy in Kabul on July 07, which killed more than 40 people, exacerbated the situation because it was believed that Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI was involved in this attack. A New York Times report quoting American official confirmed that the agency had helped militants in the attack. India had already blamed ISI for the attack.
India and Pakistan have a long time rivalry in the region. Both countries are nuclear powers and have fought in the past. Pakistan had supported Taliban to Kabul in 1996 because he wanted to have a strong control there. After 9/11, the Taliban government was declared responsible for providing shelter to Al-Qaeda and thus was attacked by the United States. It resulted the ousting of the Taliban from Afghanistan. Pakistan was not interesting in Taliban; he just wanted to have influence in Afghanistan. And this time India also wanted a presence to counter her rival.
So the recent incidents indicate that Pakistan and India have started their own war in Afghanistan along with the one between the International forces and International terrorists.
Analysts, including the best-seller Pakistani writer Ahmad Rashid, are in the opinion that the money and weapons that are given to Pakistan by U.S.A. are used against India. That is why the War on Terrorism is failing and the terrorists are getting stronger by every passing day.
